The only way that I have been able to run it is by using Vmware but even on my dual P3-933 with 512m ram on a IBM DMA/100 drive under Vmware with Windows 98 it runs veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrryyy slowwwllyy.
So to answer your question. NO!
If you figure out how to get it to run under regular 2000 lemme know please. I've been very busy at work for awhile now and so I haven't had time to update my game list. I think I've received 40+ more games that I haven't added to it yet.

hehe well got it to work, just take the apcompat.exe off the win2k cd, run it and run the install.exe off the cd, make it tell it its win98 and also check the box to use the pre-win2k temp directory. installed fine and runs fast and fine now without the compat app. Only thing is I cant get the soundsetup to not lockup. any ideas Dosfreak? i won half the battle hehe

I still can't install it under 2000. I tried it on my old 2k install, on a fresh 2k install, and on my secondary machine freshly installed. All give the same black screen while trying to run install.exe even using APCOMPAT or QFIXAPP. I don't even see how these programs could affect INSTALL.EXE, since INSTALL.EXE is a DOS prog. Is there anything else that you did?
I was able to install the game under VMWARE and noticed that the install just copies the exact same files off the HD, creates a Z.cfg files and extracts arch3d.bsa and dagger.snd from the packed.dat files. So what I am going to do now is write a batch file to copy all the files off the Daggerfall CD to a directory. All I gotta do now is figure out how to extract those 2 files out of packed.dat so that I can get the game to run.
so:
1. Please tell me how you were able to run the install for Daggerfall under Windows 2000.
2. Can someone tell me how to extract those 2 files out of packed.dat in the \Dagger\Arena2 directory on the Daggerfall CD? (I only need to do this if I can't get #1 to work.)
3. If I am unable to do #1, or #2 then I will still write my batch file but I will have to make a backup of the installed Daggerfall on a 9x machine and then upload the batch file and the 2 files to this website (which I am not sure if I can upload the 2 game files to ntcompatible since that might be illegal) so that other users will not have to go through the pain and frustration of trying to get Daggerfall to work.
Without the 2 files (arch3d.bsa, Dagger.snd) and copying the CD and making the z.cfg I was able to get as far as the game maps area and Daggerfall was running VERY fast. Unfortunately I could not get any further because of the missing 2 files.

Still can't get it to install. I wrote a batch file for an installation that makes the directories and copies the files. (Basically the same as the DaggerFall HUGE install). It works this way but I can not install using INSTALL.EXE if I can remeber where APPCOMPAT stores it's registry entries then I would like you to post them so that I can see what other settings it's using for INSTALL.EXE because using those settings that you specified I still cannot run the install.
Wierd, I have just deleted and installed it 6 times and it worked on all install sizes no errors and all I used is the compatibilty file i sent you. only thing I cant get to work is sound. the auto detect setup runs but when it tries to autodetect i get kicked back to the desktop. Im running Win2k pro Final beta (does not expire and just like full version) Let me know what info you need.

Greetings:
Daggerfall does not work on 2K, period. Bethesda has no updates for Daggerfall beyond build 213, which is YEARS old.
Might I suggest asking Bethesda for a patch or answering compatibility questions rather than whine about it on a board they probably never heard of? http://www.bethsoft.com/
daggerfall@bethsoft.com worked at one time too, but I have not used it since 1998.

I didn't have any problems to install Daggerfall under w2k pro just pr-man. Why? I don't know. Didn't even use APPCOMPAT.
For the sound I'm using VDMSound so I'm having no problem there either.

Got this game working some time ago with a helpful suggestion from someone (sorry can't remember your name!) From my NT Compatibility list:
DaggerFall
1. Download FastVid v1.1 and extract it to a temporary directory.
2. Go to the command prompt and run it full screen
3. Run fastvid and select "NO" for the first 2 options. Select "YES" for the last option and then go with the defaults.
The program will crash but that is okay.
4. Run the install for Daggerfall. It may take a moment or two but it will load.
5. Install the game!
My batchfile works too but the above has always worked.

1.) Daggerfall WILL install on a win2k/xp machine reguardless of the partion NTFS or Fat32.
2.) Not all Hardware is compatable with their programming.
Here are the steps to be taken:
Give the tech support team a call or email them.
They will ask you for your living address and they will ship you the required files and steps (on cd the patch is 41.1 MB) to get the game to install and run under win2k/xp.
Also using FastVid as DosFreak mentioned to get the install done works.
Note: Play with the options I didn't say no to all I said yes to all.
I have the Dagnt5x.exe (patch) to play under win2k/xp sadly it is a whoppin 41.1 MBs.
So sending this file isnt an option.
Try a search who knows you might get lucky.
Life is to short as it is.
Let the tech team do their job and you get to enjoy the game and
your life.

You dont realy need to call anywhere, you can get the file from here - http://dlh.net/cgi-bin/dlp.cgi?lang=eng&sys=pc&file=dagnt5x.zip&ref=ps (i checked it, it works)
Note: To play the game you will need a DaggerFall CD.
Instructions:
1.mun the patch. Extract it to C:/DaggerFall. If you choose not to use this directory then you will have to change few options in .CFG file. (you will read about it in README that comes with the patch.
2.You MUST have the CD in CDROM to play the game.
Note: You dont need any dos emulators (ex - DOSBOX) to play the game.
Everything alse you should know, will be in README that comes with the patch.
Thats it, your done! GLHF

Well, it all works relatively well on my notebook. I just need to use ESS-Soundsystem for Midi, as the SB-Emu won´t do.
However, as smooth as everything is running: The game is
a) way too fast (sprites jitter around)
only one key at a time works at best
c) some keys won´t work/the action won´t register (no running or jumping, not even moving backwards or sliding)
On a related note: DOSbox would crash upon doing any 3D.
Any idea if slowdown-apps like Moslo wound help ???
