Okay, Some Video cards (such as the ATI ones) will run VESA much better under NT OS's than other video cards (such as NVIDIA).

In the case of Daggerfall the GAME runs fine but the INSTALLER needs to access VESA for some weird reason. Now with ATI cards the installer pops up just fine but with NVIDIA cards it does not.

So if you own an NVIDIA (or other) card then search google for FASTVID.

Download FASTVID and extract it.

Run a FULL SCREEN command prompt

Run FastVID and say NO to all the options except the last one.

Now run the Daggerfall installer.

You should then be able to access the installer.

For SFX use VDMSOUND.

Ok, my disclaimer, I know close to nothing about computers.

Anyways, I NEED to play Daggerfall, and I have the problem where the autoinstaller won't work. I can't find DOS on this damned thing. So I followed DosFreak's instructions and downloaded FASTVID and extracted it. Now I'm stuck on the FULL SCREEN command prompt. I don't know how to do that. I am computer illiterate, so any help (in common English) would be helpful.

Thanks,
Josh

Just run fastvid.exe and hit NO to every question except the last. Then run INSTALL.EXE on the daggerfall CD.

I've done that, answered the first two questions as no, and the last one as yes. I then ran install.exe on the Daggerfall disc, and I ended up with a blank screen and I couldn't get out of it. I also did the Fastvid thing, and then put the Daggerfall disc in to let it run the autoinstall. It keeps telling me "an unnamed file could not be found," and then I get the autorun box, but no picture. Then if I click install I get the same blank screen.

It's aggravating, but I really want to play this game again, what else can I do?

Hey look an old thread!

Due to the hard work being done on DosBox www.dosbox.sourceforge.net. Daggerfall is now able to be run under DosBox. Currently either DosBox, Connectix Virtual PC, or real Dos are the best solutions to play Daggerfall.
