I think pmistry was more surprised that you listed Deus Ex as an RPG.

I'd say it was more of a thinking shooter than an RPG. The choices you could make in the game were fairly limited, and although some of them did influence events later on, I still wouldn't class it as an RPG.

As for suggestions on what to play, then I'm out of ideas, sorry.

Deus Ex is kind of a quasi RPG and FPS. You are right in that it is not a full fledged RPG.

1) Morrowind expansion: tribunal.
2) Diablo 1 and 2 and diablo 2 expansion.
3) Pool of radiance.
4) Vampire the masquerade: redemption
5) Ice wind dale.
6) The longest journey.
7) Planescape torment.

All I can think of that recent or somewhat recent off the top of my head. Can always suggest everquest but thats another bag of beans in itself.

If you liked Deus Ex (I hate it myself), then you'll LOVE System Shock 2!

I'm rather surprised no one has suggested the Final Fantasy series... IMO, the best RPG series out there.

Play Planescape Tormnet. That was by far one of the best ever.

Yes, I agree, my personal favorite was 6 (3 on the SNES). Excellent story, excellent graphics for it's time, and arguably some of the best video game music ever.

If you loved the Longest Journey, I would recommend that you try and find a game called "Syberia" Don't know who publishes it in the US, but check out the website.

Don't know if it's by the same people who did the Longest Journey, but it has the same feel to it - quality graphics, excellent storyline, interesting puzzles. The only shame is that it was over too quickly for my liking - although they are already working on a sequel!!

Hope this helps,
Rgds

Yes, and the same company also has Post Mortem, which should be released soon, if it hasn't been already. Both games look great!

Here is some information on Post Mortem, but it's really an adventure game, not an RPG. To the original poster, have you looked at Divine Divinity? I haven't looked at it yet, but the screenshots like nice. There's a demo available, too, which has the first dungeon... You'll only want to get that if you have broadband, though, as it's 400+ MB.

If you liked longest journey might also want to take a look at sanitarium. Same gameplay and such.
