Try disabling the system speaker in the device manager under system devices.
Sometimes you have the slider under volume control called PC speaker. Muting that could help.

I searched for the device before and didn't find it. I found it now though. Disabling didn't make any difference. Also there is no setting under volume control; that was the first thing I checked.
I am running this app from a dos promt. Is there a dos command that will disable it?

There are some settings in the registry but I can't remember exactly.
Try using a tweaking programme. I use Jermars Tweaki For Power Users ( www.jermar.com/tweaki..htm) and I can see this option under "wintweaks/system".
