DNS Server Issues
This is a discussion about DNS Server Issues in the Windows Networking category; I'm planning to migrate to a NT DNS server for simplicity reasons, and it is apparently configured properly, yet it is really flaky. I will try to go to certain sites, and it doesn't work, and then I try again and it works, and some sites, like mapquest.
I'm planning to migrate to a NT DNS server for simplicity reasons, and it is apparently configured properly, yet it is really flaky. I will try to go to certain sites, and it doesn't work, and then I try again and it works, and some sites, like mapquest.com, do not work period. The second I switch to my normal DNS server which is using the same config, everything works. Is this more likely a configuration issue, bug, or is the DNS Server that comes bundled with NT4 just a pos? How is the 2K Server version is that one any better?

DNS on Windows 2000/2003 is much better and supports different record types and dynamic registration!. Never had much problems with it at all...
Did you configure forwarders for the DNS installed on the NT system? If it is using root hints, that would explain the flaky performance (I can't remember the normal NT setup).
