DOS apps and keyboard input

This is a discussion about DOS apps and keyboard input in the Windows Games category; Hi Guys. Odd one this. When I run some old DOS apps such as Duke 3D or Stargunner the app refuses to accept any keyboard inputs. Eg, when running the Duke 3D installer it says press enter to install esc to exit.

Hi Guys.
Odd one this. When I run some old DOS apps such as Duke 3D or Stargunner the app refuses to accept any keyboard inputs.

Eg, when running the Duke 3D installer it says press enter to install esc to exit. Neither works as no inputs from the keyboard are recognised.

Any ideas?

Try disabling any software running in the systray that pertains to the keyboard or mouse. I have Duke Nukem 3D and apart from being unable to use any res above 320x240 (which makes reading those hints they pop into really dark areas of maps extremely difficult to read) it works fine.

OP
I re-installed XP yesterday because I screwed it up with some old ASPI drivers.

Since the re-install DOS apps have worked fine. I guess it was some crappy input software like you said.

Thanks for the help.
