DOS Games under XP

I am thinking of jumping my 2K/ME dual to XP Home. Will do a fresh install, and I just don't need those extra PRO features. However, I have heard so many reports that DOS games have sound under XP, is this true? I just wanted to know for something like Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Blood.

In my experience Duke nukem 3D and Blood worked fine but Shadow Warrior's sound was very choppy.

so the sound does work for the most part. Does MIDI music work too along with sound effects?

Yep, with Build engine games you shouldn't need VDMSound (I don't think it works with them under XP anyway) just set your game up to use a Sound Blaster 2.0 on Interrupt 5, DMA 1, Address 220 and General MIDI music on Address 330. Most games *should* work but a few don't.

Yeah it should work with the shareware version. I don't think piracy is a good thing, but there a ton of old abandonware sites that have the full 5-episode pack of Heretic for download. Its Heretic, its a good game, and its old, no REAL harm done. Now if it was Quake 3 or Max Payne.....but then again I am not gonna start a war on this one, someone posted an abandonware site here not too long ago. www.freeoldies.com is a good starting point.

Your missing out on heck of an adventure with the 5-episode Heretic. It is absolutely amazing, great levels, more power-ups, midi music, and cool enemies. You just got to experience the full version somehow.....email me.
