DVD drive doesn't work

I have a Pioneer A06S 16x and WinXP never detects any CDs or DVDs in it! I believe it's related to the fact I've installed a cracked firmware that makes the drive region-free (it's originally capable of changing the region 2 or 3 times only), and since I've noticed WinXP has its own DVD protection management (it lets you configure the region setting), I don't know what to do. It says "Not Selected" on the region field. Pleeeeeeeaaaaaase help me!

Hmmmm... I removed the drive and let WinXP reinstall it. It apparently worked... Now everything seems ok. Should anything regarding this happen again, I'll be sure to ask for your help again. Thanks for reading.
