EAX splash screen with Audigy

Anyone know how to get rid of the EAX splash screen that appears on startup? Apparently a file called CTEaxSpl. exe is being called from somewhere & is playing 1 or more AVI files. Someone on 1 of Creative's newsgroups said to use Msconfig, only prob is I've already checked that.

Anyone know how to get rid of the EAX splash screen that appears on startup? Apparently a file called CTEaxSpl.exe is being called from somewhere & is playing 1 or more AVI files. Someone on 1 of Creative's newsgroups said to use Msconfig, only prob is I've already checked that. There are only 3 new entries: ADGJDet & CTLTask, which I've disabled already, but there's another 1 called Updreg.exe which is in C:\Windows which I haven't disabled, as I'm not 100% sure what it is - the file properties->version->comments says it's Creative Registry Update.

I did a search in the registry & found a Runonce key for CTEaxSpl.exe. I know Runonce is supposed to do just that - run once, but I tried deleting that key on a hunch to see what would happen, & guess what - when I rebooted it's back again. Do you think Updreg.exe could be putting it back there? If this is true, this would be a sneaky way to stop people being able to disable CTEaxSpl.exe in Msconfig, as it doesn't show the contents of the Runonce key.

I think I will try disabling Updreg in Msconfig & then deleting that Runonce entry & see if it still comes back when I reboot, but will have to that later this evening as I have a download going @ the mo that I don't wanna interrupt.

Any other ideas?

Nope, the easiest way was to right click on the creative mixer and go to settings, and there was a little checkbox for loading the stupid splash screen. I am not sure if this is *exactly* correct, but it's what I vaguely remember from fixing it before.

Found it!!! [@ least I think I have - I'll know when my download finishes & I get chance to reboot]

Incase anyone else would like to know, you have to run the Creative Splash Screen app from the program group on the start menu, then click the bottom right button [looks like a circle within a circle] which then reveals the option to load on startup. Would be better if this was off by default, but is [hopefully] sorted now.

If it only appears on startup, why bother going to the trouble of removing it? It makes no sense...

Because I don't want anything to run on startup unless it's necessary, or unless it's something I want to run.

Its one single check box that is cleaverly hidden, and, its not that I (we) cant afford ram for it to play, its one of the most annoying sounds ever.

I have a 2.4GHz box with a gig of RAM, yet I can't stand that stupid thing. That's a good enough reason to be rid of it.

I still don't understand, not only does it only happen at startup, it doesn't even stay resident. How often do you guys reboot your PCs?

Now that I got my Audigy - hopefully not very often. Though I do plan to do a reinstall in the [hopefully] not too distant future, because things have got a little cluttered, etc, & that will mean plenty of reboots as quite a few apps/updates/whatever require a reboot. Aside from this, I'm also a perfectionist [whenever possible ].

I boot once every couple of weeks or so, yet I would find it annoying. If you can't understand that, then that's fine. However, I see where they are coming from and think that it's stupid for CL to bury the checkbox to disable the splash screen like they did.

[size:9]easy: don't switch the computer on Or you could use BootXP to replace it with whatever boot screen you want - either 1 of your own design, or 1 of the myriad of ready made ones you can find on the net. Quote:

Go on, release the inner evil :cough: I mean inner nerd.

But that doesn't get rid of it completely though it just replaces it with something different. It's stupid for M$ to make it so difficult to disable it.

Sounds a lot like what I said about CL and that splash screen at startup, hmmm...

Not sure whether BootXP would let you get away with it or not [haven't played around with it much - just glad to have my fave boot screen back].

You could try using a 1x1 pixel black bitmap - that would load quicker
