Enterprise 2003 - DNS Server info?
Hey all this DNS stuff is new to me, but i got it up and running on 2003 here, Now question. i have it forwarding requests to our ISP dns servers, now we often have our DNS go down, and i am hoping that in that case our computers can then use mine set up here locally.

i have it forwarding requests to our ISP dns servers, now we often have our DNS go down, and i am hoping that in that case our computers can then use mine set up here locally....
now i know this is not likely the case, but we had program called Simple DNS, that saves ALL queiries it makes, so even if the ISP's DNS goes down, we switch to the SimpleDNS program computer and since it has all these saved past dns queries for sites we have visited - it gets out sites.
Now, does the DNS in 2003 do this? saves all queries to resolve DNS address it makes? so if i go to msn.com - it stores that info somewhere and if your ISP's DNS goes down - we can use our server here and use the resolved address saved on it?
Also, how can i view all of the logs that DNS saves? - to see what is going on to make sure it is working?

Sounds like you wish to configure your DNS box for a caching only server.
I would setup an additional box just for DNS as when you reboot the server, this will flush cache.

Log files can be found can be found in %systemroot%\system32\Dns\Log\dns.log and what is audited can be configured through the DNS Snapin server properties ..... I dont have a 2003 box handy at the amount, so correct me if I am wrong.

So is there no wya to permanently keep the cache or this is what one server would do? If i reboot that box, will it still keep the cache?

No I dont believe there is a way to keep the cache from being flushed when the service is restarted / machine is rebooted .... this is why I recommended a server specifically doing cache only DNS.
