Evil Everquest

This is a discussion about Evil Everquest in the Windows Games category; First up, please don't bag me for playing EQ My problem is the system is really really slow under W2K. Zoning is slow, getting to the character select screen takes ages (goes to a black screen for a while before showing characters) and I also can't play mp3's or vqf's in the background.

First up, please don't bag me for playing EQ

My problem is the system is really really slow under W2K.

Zoning is slow, getting to the character select screen takes ages (goes to a black screen for a while before showing characters) and I also can't play mp3's or vqf's in the background. mp3's are all choppy as if I was running a POS PC, both with Winamp and Kjofol.

While in the game the display flickers, when I turn fast it needs to re-draw the whole screen. Also occasionally my Windows mouse cursor will appear through the game, and things like the systray icons appear through the game... this was once fixed with video drivers but it's back !

EQ runs shitloads better under 98 standard, and mp3's run perfect in the background.

I have just cleanly installed W2k on my Quantum 10 gig HDD (ATA 33) with NTFS.

Specs are:

Abit KT7 RAID
1gig Athlon
256MB RAM
ATA 100 40gig drive (not host drive)
GeForce 2 MX

W2k SP2
Nvidia Reference drivers 6.5 (or the latest non Beta ones, can't remember version)
DX 8 (same prob with 7)

Any help other than Quit EQ would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks.

I found tht the video was better using the 7.58 or higher NV drivers. But I SITLL have that damn problem with the sounds (music mainly) stuttering and locking up the game for a few moments - and almost always at the wrong time, during combat!
