Experences with Thanksgiving traffic or the lack there of
I think it time that this be said now that Thanksgiving(US) is over. So please share your thoughts. Personally, I figured that it was better to stay at a hotel in Austin than to fight the traffic coming back to San Antonio.

PS: People in Oregon need some driving skills (kidding)
Glad to be back home in lovely Washington state

Heh... I am FAR away from all of my family members, & currently in a new city for me (NY City) living & working.
I saw no one for Thanksgiving, & that's alright... lol, used to it. I missed them though. Especially my 1.5 year old little niece McKenna, she is a wonderful human being (my current favorite in fact).
Well how far is upstate NY from NYC. North Austin is at least 90+ miles from my house(only if I use I-35), it's longer if I take I-10 to US-183 and then get on I-35(or just use Cameron Rd.)
ON ROADS:
I stayed off the roads myself, too many folks boozing!
Yikes, here in South Texas there are a lot of people that can seem to drive without alcohol. Luckly, DPS and local towns and city police and sheriff departments were on the roads to stop that.
I am now staying with an old college buddy (brilliant guy, kid you not: A genius really, I am convinced of it!).
He's a good friend to me, even after not seeing him for nearly 5 years now, he helped me out during this move in fact letting me stay @ his place in the interim period.
(I am glad to know him, the guy's something else. He's risen to VP/ tech director status at only 28 in a HUGE corporation I might add. Yes, I find it impressive, considering he is an immigrant & is living that "American Dream" for real.)
I see that alot at Dell where Immigrant are in high posistions. I kind of apperciate that sence on both sides of my family there are plenty of immigrants.
Heh, put it this way: You will all probably see his work soon enough odds are, but I am not allowed to say where or how, but odds are really strong that YOU WILL!
What he worked on Transguide. LOL Just Kidding. I always figured I'd see something of someones
He won't admit it to me, but I am pretty sure he is well into being a multimillionaire off pure intellect & hustle (I mean, lol, not everyone OWNS an AMG Mercedes @ 460 supercharged horsepower, a 1/2 million dollar stereo, & other toys that must have cost a mint in an awesome home too).
Funny story, & he and I reminisced about it tonite: He even outprogrammed my college prof.'s & they were Lockheed Martin software engineers (lol, he did that @ 18 mind you). I thought this was funny as hell, guess you had to be there.
Anyhow, I am in the process of moving to a new place I am renting which is literally, a 2 minute drive from work (Yes, I hate driving in snow, bigtime) & that's been my Thanksgiving really, busy boy.
No snow in San Antonio or most of Texas for that matter.
APK
P.S.=> I had a 'no-turkey' Thanksgiving, but was with an old pal seeing he is doing great, an inspiration to me in ways... & no traffic either! apk

Well I'm usally on the road for 2 hours up there and a little over an hour back(well no police at 3 AM).
I guess if I wanted to be driving more often I could drive back and forth from San Antonio to Dallas(lot of time on the Interstate).
LOL

People in Austin are bad drivers too. I feel safer here in San Antonio.

So in New York, that's what, a 30 second walk?!
I love NYC, but I don't think I could ever live there. I live in the suburbs of London, that's bad enough for me, and I only ever go into the centre maybe once or twice a year (usually when rellies visit) - and I just find it too dirty, noisy and crowded...is that a sign of impending old age...?!

I don't see myself visiting NYC anytime soon and I've never been north of Philadelpha. That was when my dad was stationed at Bethesda Naval Medical Center in Maryland. I really living there when I was young but it just to expensive to live on the east coast. Austin is a cheap place to rent but too expensive to buy a house. Lots of tech jobs with Dell,Motorola,Samsung,AMD,IBM and Siemens(I don't think that's manufactoring at all).
San Antonio's downtown is sort of dirty but not all that crowded. San Antonio is one of the most spreadout cities in the US.

@shassouneh, hey you never visited me when you came down to PDX did you Yeah the drive can be a bear, but you have to watch out for them train derailment's that keep happening between Longview and Vancouver 8)
Well, I went out to Stewert Anderson's Black Angus and had some of the best Prime Rib, ummmmmmmm....
I hate to cook now cause work consumes too much of my time and I'm trying to recharge between each daily session
As for San Antone, haven't been there since basic training in the early eighties, ah, Lackland AFB in the middle of summer, joyful ;(

This time of year is nice and it's the same up in Austin. Have you ever had the feeling that some drivers just want to run you off the road?
