External modems in Win2k

Hi there. Does anyone know how to stop Win2k from not disabling an external modem if it is off at boot time? The MS knowledge base reckons that this is the way it is designed to work. However, I can leave my 33.6 ext. modem off @ boot time and Win2k does not disable it, only my 56k ext. modem.
I'm using Win2k SP1, with IE 5.5 SP1. The modems are a Hayes Accura 33.6 and a Swannsmart2 56K.
Thanks in advance for anyone who can suggest a work around.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It can be a real pain in the arse. However the problem is quickly solved by:
i) Switching on your modem
ii) Going to control panel>modems
iii)Atempt to add a new modem and let win2k search for a new one. It will not find one but will magically rediscover yours on COM1, COM2 or whatever, saving you a reboot.
Hope that helped.

Thanks for the tip thetgg. Much appreciated. I was hoping there might be a registry entry or something along those lines but so far I've found nothing. It's only a small thing but it is very irritating.
