Oh well. Must be a limitation of the TNT then . Works on a GF2.

You can see wether 8-bit palettized textures is enabled by using RivaTuner.

Nothing yet has got FF7 working under Win2k for me, but XP RC1/2 have run it fine, except one little thing...the chocobo races don't work. All the other sub games seem to, but the chocobo races drop out as soon as you try entering one.

Under Win2k I just get it locking up during fights.

Sigh, wouldn't it be nice to get some fixes from Eidos/Square

Mostly Harmless I have the same thing happening in Win2k using DosFreaks Whistler toolkit. I will try the 2k 1.5 toolkit maybe today if I have time. I´m in the spot where you HAVE to race with chocobo. And in 2k if it crashes in the battles or after them, put checkmark on EmulateWriteFile, worked for me.

Damn, didn't think to try chocobo racing. All the other sub-games seem okay, but chocobo racing just quits out straight away

Uggh, I spoke too soon in saying that my fix worked perfectly.

It appears I've been plagued with the same problem -- chocobo racing crashes straight out.

I've tried combinations of fixes from the toolkit, but I found no way of making it work.

So much for my previously-founded optimism

ive been following this thread for a while. i want to use 2k but ff7 is just tooo good to pass up. however, i havent even got as far as you guys. I know this seems a bit newbie-ish but what patches EXACTLY do i need? ive got the ACT.exe from microsnot and installed that (i only get an act dir btw). ive then got both the cab file (the install doesnt work properly) from DosFreak. Should i use the WHACTv20.cab instead? Getting anywhere with this would be cool as i cant even get the win2000layer fix up in qfix.

This post was somewhat helpful, but it seems that it was forgetten about, so i'm renewing it in the hopes that someone will have an answer for those that are still having issues running ff7 on win2k.

Good job reviving a 5 year old thread.

The solution is to play the Playstation version of FF7 on the real Playstation hardware or to use an emulator. Why people persist on playing a crappy port on the PC is beyond me.
