If you look at the bottom on the search dialog panel, you should see a selection to turn on file-indexing. This will speed up file searches quite a bit.

yeah i dont know if file indexing is on by default in w2k or not i know its not in XP, there for XP searches all your disks instead of searching the indexes.
I also noticed it is slower at searching WITHIN files
Im not sure if this fixes it, but it does at least speed up the interface:
Quote:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CabinetState]
"Use Search Asst"="no"
That takes it back to win2000 style search aka classic search
