Gateway restore cd on a non gateway computer.

I had a gateway computer with windows 2000 on it. . . lighting got it a couple of weeks ago. . . decided to build new one instead of buying another gateway. . . went to install Windows 2000 and started installing it.

I had a gateway computer with windows 2000 on it...lighting got it a couple of weeks ago...decided to build new one instead of buying another gateway...went to install Windows 2000 and started installing it...when it started through the first boot up it kind of hung up and said this is only licesenced for a gateway computer...it has the windows 2000 directory on it ...any ideas on how to get by this...thanks much...

You could try to copy the Win2k dir to another cd and use a bootable floppy to install it. Not sure if it'll work but it's worth a try.
On a side note, check with your homeowners insurance company, they might cover the lightning damage and replace the system or cover the charges to get it fixed at the least.
