got a problem with drive installation

recently i just bought a new cicero computer and bought a dvd writer seperatly. well just today after i got the drive in and turned on my computer, the computer did not only not recognize my dvd writer but also the d: drive which is my cd/rw drive:(
are all case wiring similiar? i plugged in 2 plugs that fit the holes in the dvd drive and the little cord that goes to my sound card.
my computer didnt come with a manual on installing new hardware so i kindov winged it; anyone have any suggestions for me?
what plugs go into the dvd drive exactly? why did i lose my cd/rw drive during the proccess?

I would check the jumpers on the drives. One should be the master and the other should be on secondary. You could also put both to cable select.
