Grim Fandango and Win2K

I cannot get Grim Fandango to run under Win2K. It tries to get me to install DirectX6 (which I can't. . . I even tried to let it). Is there some way to bypass this? (BTW: NT Compatible says that it IS compatible).

just copy the files, and also when you goto run the game change the shortcut (or click on) the file to the other exe (i can't remember the name, i thinks its grim.exe) instead of the usual long named file)

Also if it complains about registry stuff, or its not installed copy the stuff below to a txt file, and rename it to a .reg file. Take care not to name it like grim.reg.txt! then double click on it.

I think you have to run the install manually to skip the directx detection.... i.e. browse the cd and find the actual install program. I can't remember as i did it a while ago, but see if that helps!

The exact file you want the shortcut to point to is grimfandango.exe. That'll run the game straight off, grim.exe is the loader that doesn't work. Using the real .exe instead of the loader fixes most problems with LucasArts games and Win2k.

My Grim Fandango works fine if I run straight from: "C:\Games\Grim Fandango\GRIMFANDANGO.EXE"

However, as NT Compatible does comment, it always crashes back to the desktop within 5 minutes of playing! This is really irritating seeing as I forked out a good deal of money for the game.

Any suggestions on how to fix the crashing?

It always seam to crash when changing scene. Maybe the code that loads the new scene/music is not fully win32 code. It is only a hunch, but try running a crack that disables the music and video sequences, you will need to delete certain files as well. Also I found software 3d to be slightly more stable, but not much. I don't have it installed at the moment so I can't try it.

Good luck.

What you need to do is go to the lucas arts website and download the patch you should be able to find somewhere there. I have win 2000 and it runs fine now with the patch. hope this helps!!!
