Ground Control in XP
This is a discussion about Ground Control in XP in the Windows Games category; I am trouble with Ground Control in the briefings where the sound would sutter like a broken record is there any reason for this or is it just another XP problem?

I don't think it's an xp problem, last time I played GC I didn't have any problems.
whats your soundcard/configuration?
for peeps out here to help you, you need to give a rundown of your system specs so we can at least make a half arsed guess (australian slang)

from my experience, it must be the AC97 codec. I have seen it produce echo effects and/or clicks pops in some games (Ghost Recon, Colin McRae 3).
Have you got a spare soundcard or can borrow one from a mate and see if the stuttering continues?
PS: I am guessing that this only happens in games and when you watch dvds, divx movies, listen to mp3 in winamp or wmp the sound is ok, right?

it'd be an idea just to check your mobo manufacturer's site and see if there are any newer drivers for the onboard sound and go from there
check it out, if so install them and get back to us

Perhaps try lowering your audio HW acceleration in DxDiag or lowering your audio options in game?
To lower your audio HW acceleration, click start > run > then type in DXDIAG.EXE and hit enter. Then click the audio/sound tab and slide the acceleration bar to different settings to see if it helps. Note, this may increase compatibility but it will do so at the cost of performance. Be sure that if this does work to crank up the acceleration for other games.
