GTA1 speed problems

Has anyone been able to get GTA1 to run smoothly in win2k pro? At any res I run it keeps on slowing down sometimes. Obviously it is not my computer since I run a AthlonXP 1700+ with a Geforce2 and I've tried it with the same results on a P3 600Mhz win2k system.

um... there's a few ways u can run it...
i'd probably be thinking u'r running gtados as win2k has crappy emulation for dos games.
try running gtawin in the gta\gtawin directory.
or u could also try that compatability thing, right-click on the exe->properties->compatability...

Theres an option using one of the F-keys (F8 or F11 I think) that should help this as it removes the frame limiter...might wanna give that a try

Well with the Frame Limiter ON is limits it to about 5 fps!
Without it, it goes about 100fps!

Erk... Cant actually get the DOS version to run, I used the Windows version.
