This is a very odd problem that I can't seem to find ANY help on anywhere else... Before installing SP1 Half-Life / Counter-strike ran fine no problems whatsoever... after installing sp1 i have very very wierd problems its almost as if i lag for a few seconds but i dont actually lag. The screen pauses for a second and comes back pushing me forward... its not framerate related its related to the latency but my ping doesn't fluctuate ... If anyone knows anything about this very odd problem please give me some info about it =/ thanks

yes i did notice the problem with 3dmark 2001, but i dont care about that. As far as im concerned, the bugs in SP1 are minor, and overall gaming performance is fantastic, especially in unreal tournament which really likes my 512 of ram (from desktop to game load in 5 seconds!) and I have been playing midtown madness 2 at 1280x1024 with x4 FSAA with little jerkiness, and also Counter Strike at 1280x1024 with x2 FSAA with 60fps!!
Cant wait to get my GeForce 3
Im suprised enabling v-sync doesnt help for you- what card & drivers y using- if its a Geforce definately use the 11.01 driver if y arent already.

Switching to vsync "on" works for counterstrike, but not for GLQuake or 3DMark 2001. I think this is quite a major bug in SP1 -- especially since the same problem exists with the beta of SP2.
I'd stay without any SP's except I really want the speed improvements that they have to offer.
Win2K Should be getting better, not worse!

The main problem is the VIA 4-1 drivers...they do not work. If it's easy I would recommend you format and start over and NOT install the 4-1 drivers. I would recommend installing the MS hotfix ATA 100 driver and the most recent driver from http://www.viahardware.com/memoryenable.shtm
Also in your Bios you may want to disable the following and see if there is any improvement for you.
APCI in power mgmt
Video bios caching
Video Ram shadow
The main problem currently is the "CPU to APG controller" located in the device manager. This is what is causing the sudden lag. The 504 driver does not work. You can reinstall the MS driver by slecting update driver/next/known drivers and select the other driver listed. Hope this helps and does not confuse you.

Wicked GL drivers http://www.wicked3d.com/ worked excellent under Windows 2000 with my Voodoo Banshee. It should work even better with your Voodoo3. I also used Smoky's overclocking utility to run my core and memory at 120Mhz stable. http://www.voodooextreme.com/koolsmoky/v_ctrl.html I was able to run 40-60+ fps @ 800X600 in OGL! btw I have encountered the stuttering on occasion with my old Voodoo and current Geforce, but they can both be attributed to lag.

right, i was just saying that my problem was lag.
Well, I dont know. Probably not, because usually mobo/cpu deals dont feature the highest performing mobo.
I just thought of the board you might have: the FIC AZ11 or AZ11e.
Unfortunately, FIC also has another mobo with a AMD northbridge/Via southbridge hybrid chipset combo.
Please, look at the damn manual, kritical!
It will at least tell you what the hell your chipset it.
You can even look between the pci slots for the exact board it is.
Just look dammit!

I gave up.
I switched motherboards from a AMD-751 K7M To a VIA Abit KT7A. This completely fixed all my half-life and 3DMark Problems.
It appears as though its a problem restricted to the K7M or 751 chipset in some way.
I reinstalled in every which way with the K7M, and it never made any difference.
Hope this helps..

Go to FIC's web site and get the motherboard drivers for you motherboard!
Hmm, thats definitely not a good thing. Ive been less than impressed with FICs support in general from what Ive seen.
You could try combing the driver updates for the info here on ntcompatible, but I dont know who would have them.
Off the top of my head, I dont know of any place that has mobo makers drivers, but Im sure they're out there, but that does you no good. I'll try to remember to post a link here if I find a site with the drivers.
If you end up getting a new board I suggest a Tyan Trinity K7 (Socket A, not the Slot A) or the Asus A7V. I know the A7V is awesome, and I have a P3 Tyan Trinity 400 and that is an excellent Pentium 3 board, plus Tyan makes a lot of server boards, so they will be very stable. If you plan to overclock, go with the Asus instead, because Tyan does not target overclockers at all.
