Hard Drive Partition Hangs

Hey all, Hopefully someone has some ideas here. Had issue with Xp Pro loading, so after some tinkering, decided to repair install. Buggy, so formatted partition C of large drive and clean install. That worked great.

Hey all,

Hopefully someone has some ideas here. Had issue with Xp Pro loading, so after some tinkering, decided to repair install. Buggy, so formatted partition C of large drive and clean install. That worked great. Except. When I tried to install Windows updates, got "semaphore timeout error," as it was trying to access partition E (the large one with all my important stuff on it) and couldn't do it. I can access the drive and see the folders (which contains, looks like, info for SP1 and SP2 updates).

Now, can't even open ANY file on E:. Can see 'em, just can't open. Get same error. Ran System Suite 5's checker, but hangs on step 2, which is checking indexes. Ran chkdsk /p on recovery console and it hangs at 25% (which I imagine is same place).

Any thoughts?? Driving me crazy and I need the info on that drive.

Thanks!
