Hard drive problem.... In need of help.

I purchased a new 300gb maxtor hd. When i installed windows xp the 300 gb only shows up as 127gb. no, i do not think i partitioned it. my friend partitioned his ,but it still showed up atleast 270gb.

seems like it was xp's fault... sp1... went with sp2 and it read my other part of the hd. seems like sp1 can read up to 138gb and anything above is unreadable. i fixed it tho. with partition magic. for anyone out there with same prob.

Hi Aguy,
It's very nice that you posted here your resolution, as this is really common problem.
I had it too Acronis Disk Director.
It easily shows all info about HDD, and it's very clear for re-partitioning. My best recommendation, to my mind every one should have bootable CD with needed utilities like restore, copy, create, move, merge partitions, to be able to boot from it, if you can't boot OS.
By the way Acronis supports this tool.
