hardware or software problem?

This is a discussion about hardware or software problem? in the Windows Hardware category; i recently formatted and tried to reinstall win2k,but i kept getting this system root/nt/32. dll error at startup, would not load windows whatsoever, so i went through and tried numerous things and the only thing that worked was to put my cd-rom on the secondary ide channel and completly disconnect my dvd drive.

any ideas? thanx harlock

Unless it's a BSOD, it's most likely not hardware, although sometimes a perfectly good config gets out of whack once in a while.
If you really aren't too far with installing stuff in Win2k, reformat that partition and start from scratch.
If you've screwed around in BIOS, try setting it back to the defaults, if you haven't tried that already.
