Help IRC isn't working under XP

This is a discussion about Help IRC isn't working under XP in the Windows Software category; I can't connect to any IRC server at all. When connecting it just sits there and sits there and then finally after about 5 minutes I get a time out error. This is from a fresh install of XP. Does anyone have a fix? or might have and idea how to fix?.

mIRC works fine in xp.
Try redownloading / reinstalling it.
There are absolutely ZERO known issues with mIRC and Windows XP

Mine will sit there for about 2 mins, then connect. Its because of the firewall, if I disable it, it connects in 1 sec just like on any other OS.

The solution is very simple, you goto networking, and goto the proporties of the connection you're using to connect to the internet, then you goto the far right tab (i'm not in XP at the momment, and i cant remember the tabs name ) and disable the personal firewall. i believe it blocks identd ports etc preventing the irc server allowing you to make a connection
