HELP - Twinsen's Odyssey crashes on XP Home Edition

I recently installed the patch and everything was working fine. I was merrily playing my game when, after defeating Tralu in the cave were the lighthouse man Raph was kept prisoner, there came a scene with Zoe.

I recently installed the patch and everything was working fine. I was merrily playing my game when, after defeating Tralu in the cave were the lighthouse man Raph was kept prisoner, there came a scene with Zoe. Twinsen leads her towards the exit, and BANG... game crashes. Note: rain is heard for about one and a half seconds before the crash. I've tried nearly everything. Please help me to solve this inexorably infuriatingly frustrating problem!

Used to have LBA2, but my dog chewed up the cd...So recently downloaded it from "the-underdogs". (I guess they finally released the game, eh). Well aware that I would have problems running this on XP Home, I went in search of a patch. I found one by FunnFrog / Funnyfrog. That sorted out the scrambled screen - and I was all psyched up for the best gameplay in a looooong time. And immediately after the game begins, where Twinsen is sent out in the rain by his wife for medicine (if I remember correctly), the game crashes and the computer restarts. Have tried different compatibility modes, tried running it from the (pseudo)dos-prompt, and I have tried what always seems to work:DOSBOX, several times over. But nothing works---or rather, I can't get it to work. If there is a way, I would be ever thankful in anticipation ...Thank you...
