Question:
Are versions of 3ds max that were released prior to 3ds max 5 supported on Microsoft Windows XP Home or Professional?
Answer:
This document describes what you need to do to get 3ds max running in this environment.
3ds max will not run after installing on either the Microsoft Windows XP Home or Professional operating system. The 3ds max license will not import or export from Windows XP.
Solution:
Microsoft Windows XP was not officially supported for 3ds max until the availability of 3ds max 5.
However, we have not yet determined any specific problem running 3ds max 2.5 or higher on a Windows XP system. The licensing system shipped with these earlier versions of 3ds max must be upgraded.
For 3ds max 4.0 through 4.2.6, (version 4.3 does not require an update), you must upgrade the C-Dilla licensing software.
Go to http://www.discreet.com/support/max/download to get the latest version of the C-Dilla Standalone License Manager software from the 3ds max support download page.
For 3ds max 2.5 through 3ds max 3.1, you must upgrade the Sentinel SuperPro Hardware Lock drivers from the Download section of the Rainbow site at http://www.rainbow.com
