I have a small XP network. One of the PC's is a proxy server to a cable internet connection. When I click on one of network drives in My Network Places there is a long delay before displaying the drive.

If I have the proxy log visible I will see an attempt by Explorer to connect using the proxy server. For example: One of the computers is named Brian. When I try and open that drive I see activity in the proxy log like:
CERN Proxy: 192.168.0.3 requesting HTTP connection for http://brian/

DNS: 192.168.0.3 requesting an IP for brian.jamison01.pa.comcast.net

CERN Proxy: 192.168.0.3 requesting HTTP connection for http://www.brian.com

It takes time for each one of these requests to time out and eventually the drive does come up. This happens for every one of my network drives.

Please Help
Thanks,
Suzie

In internet options, on the connections tab, click the lan settings button. There is a checkbox there for "Bypass proxy server for local addresses". That should fix you right up...

OP
CUViper you're a genius.

I have searched for a solution to this problem for 2 months. Since the problem was in Windows Explorer I never would have thought of looking in Internet Explorer. I must admit that it used to take forever for IE to load intitally. Now it loads normally.

Thanks Again!!!
