Hello,
I am trying to connect an xp machine to a ras on an nt server service pack 6.
I am doing that through dialup.
I have a problem seeing the shared folders of the nt server and the nt has a problem seeing the xp's shared folders. Ping works ok both ways (to an ip address and to name of pc only after importing lmhosts.sam).
The configuration of the nt server ras is as follows:
It gives static addresses for clients beginning from 1.1.1.2 to 1.1.1.250 and it lets the client determine its address. I have netbeui installed on the nt server though i tried it also without the netbeui.
Its important to know that with a 98 or win2000 pro client i have no problem getting into the nt server ras - as I can install netbeui in their dialup.
As i understand xp doesnt support netbeui in ras.
Please help me fix that problem.
To be clear - I dont mind about the netbeui (which i use on my 98's clients). All I care is about the configuration seetings for the nt server ras and for xp so ican see each other shared folders.

By the way - I tried this confiuguration:
xp as client, 2000server as a server and there were no problems seeing each other shared folders.

Thanks,
Sefi

Simplest solution if security is not a major issue is to install Netbeui on Windows XP. I am running this exact same setup (XP at home, Nt4svcpk 6 at work). I have no problem accessing my NT server or the Lan it is connected to.
For instructions on installing Netbeui on XP:

Install NetBEUI on Windows XP
The files necessary for installing the NetBEUI protocol on Windows XP are Netnbf.inf and Nbf.sys. Complete the following steps to install NetBEUI:
Insert your Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive and browse to the Valueadd\MSFT\Net\NetBEUI folder.
Copy Nbf.sys to the %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\Drivers directory.
Copy Netnbf.inf to the %SYSTEMROOT%\Inf hidden directory.

NOTE: To make a hidden folder viewable, perform the following steps:
Click Start, click Run, type Explorer, and then press ENTER.
Click Tools, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
Under Advanced Settings, click Show hidden files and folders under the Hidden files and folders Folder.
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections.
Right-click the adapter you want to add NetBEUI to, and then click Properties.
On the General tab, click Install.
Click Protocol, and then click Add.
Click to select NetBEUI Protocol from the list and then click OK.
Restart your computer if you receive a prompt to complete the installation.
The NetBEUI protocol should now be installed and working.

NOTE: %SYSTEMROOT% is a Windows environment variable that identifies the directory where Windows XP is installed (for example, C:\Windows). To view the value associated with %SYSTEMROOT%, as well as other environment variables, at a command prompt, type set, and then press ENTER.

NOTE: After following the steps above you should be able to use NetBEUI on Lan connections, however you will not be able to use NetBEUI on a Remote Access Service (RAS) connection. RAS connections cannot use NetBeui.

Good luck.
