Hitachi GD2000 DVD-ROM
This is a discussion about Hitachi GD2000 DVD-ROM in the Windows Hardware category; I've done some research, visited most websites, and what I've read is that I cannot play my dvd movies with my current DVD-ROM drive unless I buy a decoder card. But my question is, is this a fact? Must I get a decoder card, because I have no pci slots free.

There is a neat app called VLC Media Player which can play DVDs without a decoder. It's even free (and open source)!
It supports DVD playback, network streaming, and some other cool things. get it at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/.
PS: I use it all the time. Works great!
