Hogs of War

Anyone managed to get Hogs of War running on 2000? I seem to be having no luck with the Compatibility tab that comes with SP2. .

Have you tried using the Application Compatibility Toolkit [ACT] yet?
It might hammer out a few probs for you...

I think so. but to be honest I forget what I've used and what I haven't. Only just installed 2000, so I've been trying to get a number of things going.

I'll give it a burst. Thanks for the feedback.

I've had a go at using it now, but haven't had much luck with it. I may just be doing something stupid, but I can't even work through the demoapp.exe example properly.

It says to run the app by itself, and then you get a Windows 95 error. (fine)
It then says to run the app using the Win 95 layer and you get a .dll error, but the app runs though to completion. But I still get the Win 95 error. After labouring on that for some time, I decided I wasn't about to get Hogs working in a hurry until I'd conquored the demo.

Anyone else had trouble with this sample program that came with the toolkit?

Read the documentation. It will explain everything.

What error are you getting with Hogs of War?

"This program was not designed for Windows NT. Install will abort."

The example in the doco (demoapp.exe) invloves getting a .dll error, but being able to run the application through to completion. From there we're just pin-pointing which fixes actually did the job, yeah?

However, none of the layers currently help me get past this error, whether I'm running Setup.exe from its location on the cd, or from a copy of the cd on my HD. I ran it from a copy because I thought maybe it would matter that QFixApp can't write files (such as demoapp.sdb and Qfixapp.log) to the cd.

Anyway, no cigar as yet. Thanks for the help though. I appreciate it.

Hmmm, try apcompat.exe from the "Support Tools". Also have you tried the compatibility layer included with SP2? Right-click on the setup.exe, create a shortcut. Now right-click on the shortcut and choose the 95 compatibility layer.
