Hi,

A friend, who knows nothing of computers, except how to use word, maybe...gave me a Win NT workstation 4.0 Cd-set/w boot floppies.
I got it home, removed a sealed plastic cover, and no PID, or CoA label, was on the disc cover ;(

He told me it shipped with the PC he bought for his tanning shop PC, which has installed Win98se on, as a Disk load.
NT was never installed or opened, so I think that the people who sold him this PC, kept the Label & Key...seeing how they loaded 98se on his PC, and kept the PID & COA for that as well...

How can I get one?
I looked on the Microsoft site, but found nothing about this

Thanks,

Also be forewarned, if this PC came preloaded then it is likely an OEM install. OEM is not transferable so... your friend can't likely, legally, give you the CD's....

Sorry, but we cannot condone the use of keygens, serial databases, or any other means of gathering w4rez. I am sure there are tons of places you can get the information from (albeit illegally), however we can't allow it to be posted here.

Hi,

This is a full version of NT Workstation 4.0. It is not an OEM version, simply an OS, that he knew nothing about, which came with the system, he had, which was not OEM, he simply wanted Win98SE instead... they both came with the Workstation he bought.

I am not looking for a Key-Gen, serial database, or any Illegal means of getting the key.

All I was asking was, if anyone ever had a situation, where they had a LEGAL, version, but lost the key, and needed to get it again.

I am a MCSE, I also administrate networks remotely(working on MSND cert now!).

I simply wanted to use this version, in a legal ownership fashion.
I have the Receipt for it.
I have more than 12 legal copies of Microsoft OS
which came in a 20 CD set, with VS.NET 2003, as
I also work part time, as a VB.NET programmer, I beta test MS software, daily... If I wanted to hack it, I would have.

I simplywanted to use it, in conjunction with Cisco Switches, routers, & ,Networking WinNT,2000 advanced server, 2003 server.net, these OS have parts in the CCNA, Cert. test.

Regards,

How do you know it is not an OEM - it came from a OEM manufacteur - PC sellers - whom %99 of the time install OEM O/S's??

i am sure if you have the reciep[t if you send off an emaoil; to MS then can send you one - i recall hearing somewhere that if you havea receipt and can prove you purchased the O/S then they will givce you one.

the serial key could be on a sticker on the side or his case somewhere - that is the most common method PC makers use.

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice on how to get my legal key for my NT workstation.

After calling microsoft. I faxed them a copy of my receipt, the first page of manual, & a color flatbed scan of the windows NT disc
(they said they would know by the colors, if it was real.)

They mailed, my Product ID, and Cert. of Authenticity, and I got it today.

Microsoft told me it is a full version of Workstation 4.0

thanks again.

For those who have this problem in the future....

MS really doesn't care about invidual keys (except of course for XP/2003 when it comes to installing updates). What they do care about is the license. So say you have 2 copies of NT4 but only 1 NT4 key because the other was lost. Simply use the keys on both systems but make sure you have the license.
