How to Remove Devices in XP

I don't mean uninstalling using device manager, but I am looking for the method to properly remove a hardware device and all associated drivers in XP.

I remember that w/ Win2K there is a control applet called "Unplug or Uninstall Devices", but this functionality doesn't seem to be in WinXP anymore.

What's troubling me specifically was that I have a removeable drive that I can't uninstall (becuase I don't have it anymore, so it doesn't show up in the Device Manager), and it's occupying a driver letter...doh

Try..
Right click on my computer, choose manage.
On the left side choose disk management, if its listed in there right click on it, choose 'change drive letter and path' then just select it and click remove.

See if that gets rid of it.

it doesn't show up there...it shows a, c, d, e, f, h, i....I want to get rid of the "invisible g:" drive....

Device Manager Does Not Display Devices That Are Not Connected to the Windows XP-Based Computer (Q315539)

Device Manager displays only non-Plug and Play devices, drivers, and printers when you click Show hidden devices on the View menu. Devices that you install that are not connected to the computer (such as a Universal Serial Bus [uSB] device or "ghosted" devices) are not displayed in Device Manager, even when you click Show hidden devices .

There's instructions on how to work around the behavior in the article.
