Clouds of weirdness gathered above my house yesterday
The previous evening I shut down the PC with no error messages. Last evening, tried to boot normally, but got a BSOD with the "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DEVICE" message.
My C: drive is NTFS, the others (D-H) are FAT32, I and J CDR/DVD drives. I am running the VIA PCI patch, on a 8KHA DDR mobo (no raid).
Did a safe mode, and I noticed the BSOD came after trying to load the mcp.sys driver.
Booted from my XP CD, selected to epair the existing installation, got to a pseudo-DOS prompt and decided to run the "Fix Boot" command. Rewrote the Boot sector, and the PC boots w/o problems since then.
What could have caused this?

Do NOT download the 23.11 drivers from the Microsoft Update site, they resulted in a repetitive BSOD/Infinite loop blues. Instead I dloaded the new 27.10 (www.reactorcritical.com), and didn't experience ANY problems so far.
