I love Win2k, but not for Q3...

I love the stability of win2k, but when I play Q3 I just can't get the same smoothness that I can with 98. In 98 it's butter smooth, but in Win2k it just looks shakey. p3 800 with GeForce 2 with detonator 6.

Anyone got any tips?

Odd, I have a P3 800 that I used with a GeForce and GeForce2 GTS Pro boards with very smooth performance. What are the rest of your components?

yeah it could be due to sound drivers or something because Q3 ran fine on my GF2 MX. Also get the 6.67 detonator drivers they are better than most other ones.

aureal vortex sound card with the latest drivers. Its weird, the frames per second are just as high as in 98, but the picture isnt as smooth as it is in 98. I'm getting around 100 in timedemos in either OS in 800 x 600 with everything on. Could it be some sort of a refresh rate problem?

yep... its almost certainly a refresh rate problem. By default, the nvidia Detonator drivers will only run 3D at 60Hz in Win 2K, and unless you manually edit the registry/edit the INF before you install the drivers, or use the cool nv refresh fix program - your stuck at 60Hz.

I use the nv refresh fix program and I have 85Hz at 1024x768 (my monitors best at that resolution) and everything is silky-smooth.

But I cannot where I downloaded it... anyone?

Thanks, I ran a search and found that program.
