However the game simply is not working for me under Windows XP.

I can get to the Menu screen fine, Where it asks me to select load/new gamek Ect.

It only gives me Single Player as an option. But when I actually Click "New game or Load game" it tells me it cannot load the correct network protocol. Failure loading game.

It starts up Fine in Windows 98. But I don't really use that OS and since I have over 512 Megs of ram it becomes extremely unstable.

The readme says Windows 2000 is not supported but the compatibility archives insist the game works. And so do alot of people I have talked to on other boards.

Any help would be apreciated.

P.S aplication compatibility tool does not work with this game.

I've played IwD and HoW, under Win2k and XP.

They work, perfectly.

Try deleting the game folder (don't bother uninstalling), and reinstall the game. Install Icewind Dale, then Heart of Winter. Then install Trials of the Luremaster (it's about 70meg), simply because it is a patch, as well as an addon.

Your version should be 1.42.

What video card are you using? Don't bother loading downloading the OpenGL drivers for the Geforce2-4 cards; just use the default one.
