Hey there,
I ran into this site by googling for a solution to my problem, because there was mention of a problem similar (or even equal) to mine.
After I installed a certain program (Euroglot 4.0 pro), various icons on my desktop and in windows explorer got a black background (small black stripes on the sides and even thinner stripe above the top and below the bottom). The program list in my start menu now shows program icons with a white background?!
The icons in the system tray also show a little background, but this is a little darker grey then the taskbar/tray color.
The quicklaunch icons are not affected somehow?
I think icons -in general- all exist out of a square picture, no matter the shape of the icon (for example M$ IE icon is round), but whatever is outside of the icon shape should not be displayed and now somehow is displayed.
I tried rebuilding my icons with TweakUI's "rebuild icons" option, but that only temporarily removes the black edges from my desktop icons, not the rest (of my annoyance).
Anyone know how to solve this?
Thanks,
Mischy

Had a similar issue after upgrading Internet Explorer, and found these solutions (Though it was the deletion of the iconcache that solved the problem for me)
