Suffice to say it looks really ugly, on example is the IE logo on the desktop instead of being the light blue colour it is dark blue blocky and has has a hint of green in it, the Media Player 7.1 logo is all washed out.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the icons back to there proper look without a reformat?
Thanks

1/Display Properties/Appearance/Icon Size, then reduce size one setting.Click 'Apply', then increase icon size by one, click 'OK'.
2/Search/Files or Folders/'C' Drive/named shelliconcache
3/Delete ' shelliconcache ' & reboot.
Hope this helps.

I don't know if this is going to help, but it's the only thing i can think of for this funny problem.
Download TweakUI from microsoft's web site. Then after installing it run it from controll panel and go to Repair tab.Select "Rebuild icons" and press "repair now" button.
This will rebuild all explorer icons plus it will get rid any unused icons from the memnory.
Hope it helps.

No sorry that never worked.
This can be caused by NetMeeting crashing. To fix it you have to load up NetMeeting again, close it down and reboot.

Try running regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics. Once there, look for a Shell Icon BPP key and set it to 16. Reboot and see if that helps.
OP
