Hi

MY IIS 5.1 (on XP) has been working fine for ages. However, a few months ago, it stopped starting automatically and each time I rebooted, I had to start it manually. Anyway, it still worked fine.

Today, I tried starting it and I got the following error message:

"Unexpected error 0x8ffe2740 occurred."

What exactly does that mean?!

I have tried restarting the system and it still says the same thing. Now, however, it has a red 'error' icon next to the 'Local Host (Stopped)' part.

(I only use it on the localhost for some basic PHP development).

Since, I have had a look in the Event Viewer under System messages and I can see the following error under the source of 'W3SVC':

----
The service could not bind instance 1. The data is the error code.
For additional information specific to this message please visit the Microsoft Online Support site located at: http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
----

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Mak.

Have you made any changes to your network configuration? IIS under Windows 2000 requires that the MS Networking components are installed. I haven't really played with IIS under XP, but I suspect that requirement is still present.

Double check your network settings and see how you get on.

you could back up your files and uninstall then reinstall IIS that should mank sure that all the proper components are in place.
