Installing RC1
This is a discussion about Installing RC1 in the Windows Software category; I've been trying to install RC1, but after the first reboot once the animated install begins I receive an error of the form Fatal Execption. . . One of the components Windows needs cannot install. . .
I've been trying to install RC1, but after the first
reboot once the "animated" install begins I receive an
error of the form
"Fatal Execption... One of the components Windows needs cannot install....
SXS install failed
E:\i386\asms
incorrect function"
This is not an exact quote. Has anyone seen this error?
My setup:
ASUS A7A266 mobo
1.2 Ghz Athlon
256 PC133 RAM
onboard c-media sound
GeForce2 GTS
NetGear FA311 NIC
HP 8200 CD-R/RW.

Yeah, I got the exact same message. Trying to install directly from Win2k gave me a similar error.

It's a bad cd.
Reburn the cd.
Try at a lower speed or a better brand of blank cdr's
I've had this happen a few times and I just reburned it.
Try using a different program to burn the image than the one you used.
If the image was on a network drive, copy it over and then burn it.
Doing any combination of the options above should get you a working disc.

I had the same problem with one of the last interim builds.
