Intel Tualatin P3 1.2Ghz Preview
This is a discussion about Intel Tualatin P3 1.2Ghz Preview in the Feedback category; The Tech Zone has posted a preview on the Intel Tualatin P3 1. 2Ghz CPU The new Pentium3 isn´t all that new. Changes are evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, which stands to reason. Intel doesn´t want to reinvent the wheel, just do a better job of filling a perceived gap in its product line.

The "new" Pentium3 isn´t all that new. Changes are evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, which stands to reason. Intel doesn´t want to reinvent the wheel, just do a better job of filling a perceived gap in its product line. Manufactured on a 0.13 micron process, as opposed to the 0.18 micron process used on the Coppermine, the CPU should run significantly cooler. Also, the CPU has lower voltage requirements. The die shrink results in some potential for additional real estate (such as more L2 cache memory, which is available on the Tualatin "S" cores, or the Data Prefetch unit mentioned below).
