This is a discussion about Irongate vs Duron in the Windows Hardware category; Just wanted to know what you guys think is better, the old athlons or the duron. Another question i have is if ddr ram is better than rambus. ive heard so many different views on it i want to see what the win2k guys think.

I don't know about the AthlonClassic v. Duron thing, but I would expect it depends on what you're doing, like the Katmai v. Celeron issue.
As for DDR v. RAMBUS, that's a holy war mine field right now. They are both more expensive than SDRAM now, which is all that matters for some, but DDR is a bit cheaper than RDRAM [128 for $90 and $140, respectively on PriceWatch]. They are both 'better' than SDRAM, RDRAM running at 400MHz, and DDR running at 266MHz, but the numbers are misleading, as RDRAM has a higher latency, which clogs up some of that bandwidth.
DDR is recently released, so I wouldn't want one of these first gen boards. RDRAM has been out for a while, but is only used with the P4, and a few PIII server boards. I think I'll wait for the second round of DDR boards before picking it up. I am not zealously against RDRAM, as most people are, but I think DDR is the way to go.
I've heard recently of QDR, Quad-Data Rate RAM, which will run at 133x4=533MHz. That should be sweet.

Duron rocks, I have one myself, and a looot of my friends have. It simply rocks. Now, the old Athlons is also good.
DDR SDRAM vs. Rambus, the winner is: DDR SDRAM!
I think it's kinda stupid... If you buy a Intel P4 1.4 GHz (that'll be outperformed by a Athlon 1.2 GHz easily, my duron 1000's better than a 1.5) you get 128 MB Rambus RAM with it! Hmmmm...

Bueno, me llego mi Duron hoy, I no lo quedo usar porque mi SuperOrb no me llega asta este miercoles, so dos dias mas y lla puedo tener mi "AMD system" corriendo. Es un 650 y quiera dios que pueda llegar a 1,000 que porfin estoy muriendo por hugar algunos huegos.
