oK I made sure my resolution on deaktop and in the game were the same. I pressed ctrl alt del while i was in quake 3 area just for a quick test. The taskmgr.exe came up but when i went to a different task like www.ntcompatibile.com website, or my email, etc it would not go to it. I would see it try to come up but quake 3 arena i would still see. I am on a nt os yes. I guess it does not work huh ? One thing i hate is sometimes when you do try to get out of a game by ctrl alt del, or the windows key on the keybaord your whole system will freeze because you can get like stuck in the game.
you alt-tab.
however, some older games are not designed for this and so can lead to crashes when you try to get back.
Some games have an ignore alt-tab built in.
Still, you will find you can multi-task with quite alot of games.

CTRL+ESC works good for me, especially in games that fill the whole screen that you cant see the task bar, and even CTRL+ALT+DEL dont work

Another option for quake3 games is press alt+enter and the game will go into a window mode, leaving you free to switch between chat or other task.
