I have a Maxtor 15gig on Master and IBM 40gig on Slave for IDE 1. Reason I placed it on the same channel was cause that was the only one that has ATA100 while the other channel is regular ATA66. Should I just go ahead and place the IBM on IDE 2?

You might want to swap the 15GB HD and the 40GB HD. Instead of the 15 as a Master, use it as a Slave and the 40 as a Master. You'll notice a huge speed increase.
I had a similar prob recently with my CDRW, if you have a VIA chipset then read the CDRW Weirdness thread for the solution.
OP
heh, uninstalled ide channel 1, rebooted, and now it's back to Ultra DMA Mode 5, probably the latest Via 4-in-1's screwed it up. Thanks
No problem. Glad you got it working!
