Journey to BG: TotSC in Windows XP
I spend a few hours trying to get my old Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast to work. Compatibility mode did not help, the wowexec, ntvdm and setup processes hanged (it used 16 bit InstallShield).

Compatibility mode did not help, the wowexec, ntvdm and setup processes hanged (it used 16 bit InstallShield).
Using msconfig, removed all startup programs and retried. No go.
Going through Bioware's forums, Google's results, offered some tips, but they did not help.
Then I did booted into Safe Mode and tried to install it.
To my surprise, the setup did start (compatibility mode was set to Windows 95) and it installed fine.
After up[censored], using these patches, the game worked fine without any compatibility mode (If the compatibility mode was enabled, the game lagged way too much).
So, if there's someone struggling with this same game in XP, try this. It may help.
I am now off to Candlekeep...
