Laptop and monitor problem
I got a laptop and I just got a second hand monitor. Now it's a HP Ergo 1024. When I connect it to the laptop, the laptop is shutted down, and when I turn on the power button, it goes on and off. So in other words it won't turn on.

So in other words it won't turn on. But when I unplug it the laptop runs. Now I think it's actually the monitor because it is one of those monitors when the you have to plug in the wire for the monitor and the tower. Not the ones when you only plug into the tower. The HP monitor works on desktop computers but not laptop because I tested it out and the laptop can use monitors when you only connected it to the computer.
I guess in other words it only works with a monitor when you plug it right into the computer but doesn't with the other kind. So anyone got an idea?
And I'm very sorry if this is complicated because seems kind of badly explained.

Have you had a chance to try another monitor connected to your laptop? I suspect that the HP monitor may be trying to draw some power from the VGA port. I actually saw a monitor once that was not plugged into the wall, only to a desktop computer, and the green power LED illuminated. I believe, if my memory serves me correctly, that was an HP monitor. Anyway, there's my $0.02. Hope that helps.
