Check your file associations, are .avi files opening with something other than WMP?

I believe that tab is dependent on a WMP library.

this is what sounds like happened. you could not delete avi files before, so you did a reg tweak so you could delete them.
IFSHLP.exe is the culprit and is disabled using this tweak. IFSHLP.exe normally is what gives you thr propertis of the file, but some ahve the glitch of not being able to delete avi files, the fix basically disabesd ifshlp.

Download viortualdub
www.virtualdub.org
load the avi file then go to file>file information. this will give you all the info yo need.
