Making a domain

Ok i'm not very familiar with nt. But how do you set it so that other users on say (w98) can login to NTBox. I have all my computers in a workgroup but I cant figure out how to get them in a domain. .

You must have NT4/Win2k Server or above to be able to create a PDC (Primary Domain Controller).. Once you have created this, just add the computers/users from the network settings in control panel.
Win2k Pro and Win98/ME cannot create domain AFAIK

It might as well, CNA certification doesn't seem to warrant the pay these days.. Im going for IBM certified spe[censored]t (in AIX (unix) and hardware (SMP,SP parallel processing). The CWD (certified Winsock developer) only helps with my SM200D Satellite card (2Mb/s connection .. 1MB in 4 seconds!!..)

Just something to add to that...

Your NT Server machine will not allow your 9x machine (or any machine for that matter) to log in if it's not first certified in the domain. All I mean by that is, (nt4) you must go to "Server Manager" in Ad tools... and add your 98 machine there. It will make sense once you're there.

Sorta the same thing is done in Win2k, however the domains are handled differently. Domains in Win2k are DNS names. For example...... sandoval.com would be the domain, and the DNS name. If your client computer's name is NT4-Client, and it is logged into the sandoval.com domain, the domain name of your nt4-client will be nt4-client.sandoval.com

This is a very nice imporovement over nt4 server. Domains and DNS names are now one!!
