Making XP machine a LAN domain server

How to make a XP machine a LAN domain server? I am trying to set up a LAN here with domain names but requires me to install Windows 2000 Sever which I want to avoid if the purpose can be achieved with Win XP/XP Professinal.

Sorry But ONLY the server editions of windows os's support Domains. You can join existing domains with workstations, but you can not create a domain with them.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to do. Are you tyring to have one logon for all access, or are youjust trying to use DNS for name resolution?
