Hi there,

I did a clean install of WinXP Pro and Max Payne with the latest patch. Without activating the Win98 compatibility mode it took years to load. Also the buttons of my IntelliMouse Explorer USB were only regocnized after a second I pushed them.

In the Win98 mode, there are no problems anymore. Is that normal?

The other ting is that Renegade takes also very long to load a level and then is stuttering (graphic and sound) all the time. The Win98 Mode didn't solve the problem.

I use NFTS as file system and I have connected my HD to a Highpoint RAID controller (not in RAID mode). Could it be that?

Any solutions?

My Specs:
Intel P4 1.8A
Abit TH7-II RAID
256MB RDRAM
ATI 7500 (with the latest Beta drivers 6043)
Creative SB Live

Thanks for your answers in advance!

Greetings
Merkor

The renegade problem is related to ATI cards, it seems that Max Payne has a similar problem. I would make sure you have the latest drivers for your hardware and the latest directX

I can't make any comment about Renegade as I don't have it so haven't tried it, but Max Payne runs just fine on my system, despite my specs being below Merkor's [apart from amount of RAM]

K6-2/500
TMC TI5VGA mobo [2MB cache version]
320MB RAM [1x64 + 2x128]
ATI Radeon 64MB DDR ViVo
Sonic Vortex 2
30GB IBM 75GXP

PS - never had to run MP in compatibility mode either.

Could just be an intel problem =) jk
I think that windows xp just has alot of compatibility issues in general . If I were you I could get my self win2k pro , it is rock stable , and there are tons of fixes for what ever you might need.(which wont be alot). I ran winxp for about 4 days before I switched back too win2k.

Max payne and Renegade are great and run smooth on my dualee Intel/P3-733/GF3. Even with details up/1024.

I do not use EAX ( like A3D better, the Santa Cruz I have is great ).

Renegade does have a map caching delay problem. They need to allow us to configure the amount of caching in the engine.
